Top Ten Analog IC Leaders Enjoying Early 2006 Growth Spurt
TI tops in sales, Philips achieves best growth rate

Following 17% growth in 2004, the analog IC market cooled off with a 2% increase in 2005. However, early 2006 analog IC market results (i.e., the combined data of January and February) were very strong, posting a 27% year-over-year jump. Cellular phone ASSP devices had the highest market growth rate of the major analog IC segments in early 2006 with a 52% year-over-year increase!

It is interesting to note that, even with strong NAND flash sales, the worldwide digital IC market (not including the booming analog IC segment) was down almost 1% in early 2006 as compared to early 2005!

While analog IC dollar volume gains in the early 2006 market were strong, analog IC unit volume shipments were even more impressive. Total worldwide IC unit volume shipments increased 28% in early 2006 as compared to early 2005. However, analog IC unit volume shipments surged 41% in early 2006, a shockingly high run-rate that obviously cannot be sustained! IC Insights believes that the pace of analog IC unit volume shipments will start to slow in 2Q06 to a more reasonable level before picking up momentum again in late 3Q06 as seasonal factors once again come into play.

The top 10 analog IC suppliers (Figure 1) are currently enjoying strong demand for their products. The top 10 analog IC suppliers accounted for two-thirds of the analog market in 2005, although total revenue among them was flat compared to 2004. As shown, Texas Instruments was the top analog supplier with sales of $4.5 billion. However, Philips was the fastest growing company in the 2005 top ten ranking. Moreover, with Philips’ stated intentions to spin out its semiconductor division, the possibility exists of it merging with another top analog supplier in 2006.

IC Insights' March Update to The McClean Report includes rankings of companies in various IC product segments including DRAM, MPU, MCU, DSP, and analog devices. Additionally, it includes updated sales rankings for the top 50 semiconductor, top 50 IC, top 40 fabless, and leading foundry company rankings.

The McClean Report is available for $2,190 in either a three-ring binder or CD-ROM format. Additional individual copies of the disk or binder sell for $495 each. The report is also available under a multi-user corporate license for $5,490.
